Return of the big BadWolf!

The latests episode of Doctor Who was on TV last night, and although a 'Doctor Lite' episode (where David Tennent gets a rest from filming) it marked the return of Rose Tyler and message for the Doctor:
'Bad Wolf' 'The darkness is coming'

This is a reference to next week's episode where we have the return of everyone's fave dustbin baddies 'The Daleks'.

'Turn Left' was an excellent episode in many respects, but in the main due to the wonderful performance by Catherine Tate (surprise, surprise) and the fact it portrayed a world without the Doctor. Plus, it's depiction of what would happen in Britain should a nuclear attack hit London was startling for early evening Saturday night viewing for kids. Refugees, enforced labour camps, nazi style Government population control and more! In Doctor Who? Yes, I kid you not!

But perhaps the best part of last night's episode was the trailer for next week's show called 'The Stolen Earth'. It has everything and everyone in it, including Torchwood and Sarah Jane. Cool.
Oh... and always wondered what the reference was for 'Where have all the bees gone?' Want a spoiler?
Bees are a hive mind and a warrior species, meaning that they are the perfect lifeform for transforming into Daleks by the Cult of Skaro. Much better than using humans like Dalek Sec did 'Daleks in Mahattan'. A little genetic engineering and some help from Davros and you've a new Dalek army! Ta Da!

Bring it on....

Hardcore History

I've just finished listening to an incredible series of podcasts from US radio commentator and history 'fan' Dan Carlin. It's called 'Hardcore History', and you can find it on iTunes, Podcast Alley, or info and links from Dan's site (details at the end of this entry). Dan is not a professor of history, but a self confessed 'fan'. And it shows. And not in a bad way. His podcasts are the most engaging, entertaining and educational history podcasts I've ever listened to, and they enthuse you in a way about history that's hard to explain. Please seek them out. Please listen to them. Then, like me, you may become more fascinated by the wonderful, rich tapestry of life and history that has all gone before us.
Hardcore History teaches us that what we are living through today has all happened before. And it shows us practical examples today. For example. The Apache Indians were the most feared tribal Native Americans in the South western US in the 1800s. Yet they were both freedom fighters AND terrorists at the same time. This tribe, in it's final days were led by Jeronimo, the famed medicine man, led a campaign of terror against the 'white eyes'. They lived and hid out in hostile mountains and practiced terror attacks and raids on the 'invading' white population and Mexicans. Sounds a lot like the Iraq insurgents doesn't it? Well let Dan explain this and far more other jewels from history. Give the podcast a go today. The details are:

Iron Man Rocks

I keep checking out for news on the Iron Man DVD but nothing yet. It's getting frustrating, as I wanna see it again, but having a kiddie means not going to the cinema! And let's face it... Iron Man rocks! More than Indy maybe? ;-)

Galactica finds Earth

It's what we've been waiting for... and it's been worth the wait.

Shatner Roast

Perhaps the funniest thing I've ever seen.... Ever! I can watch the Shatner roast over and over again. He's a man without equal, but when it comes to roasting, 'ol' gay Takai' can show the big guy a thing or two about comedy.
It's genius. Just watch this:
